MANY TREATMENT RESISTANT, DEPRESSED PATIENTS HAVE INERTIA AND ANHEDONIA. INERTIA IS THE INABILITY TO GET STARTED. ANHEDONIA IS THE INABILITY TO DERIVE PLEASURE FROM SITUATIONS OR ACTIVITIES. WHAT THE REST OF US SEE IN THESE PEOPLE ARE:

Procrastination

Tardiness

Exhaustion

Altered sleep-wake patterns

Quickly starting (forced), but quickly ending in incompleteness (inability to sustain effort)

Finishing a project or reaching a goal, but deriving no satisfaction or pleasure in their accomplishments. This lack of a sense of reward reinforces not trying again in the future.
