The humane treatment of our sisters and our brothers…

Coming down/off everything from alcohol to some correctly administered and taken prescriptions, to many street drug concoctions is so physically painful, nauseating, anxiety-producing, depression-triggering, trauma recreating, insomnia-producing, loneliness-creating, shame-producing, and crave-triggering that many people may need to be prescribed one or more medications to help alleviate symptoms. These medications may be needed to be takenContinue reading “The humane treatment of our sisters and our brothers…”

Shame and embarrassment, as well as the fear of these thoughts and feelings, persist in part because we’re in the same life situations, around the same friends, same family, same work, the same ques and triggers. These people and the places that make up our environments may represent love and support, but often these people and places lock us into our same patterns, making it difficult for us to accept the unpleasant aspects of ourselves, our thoughts, our feelings, and our situations. Intentionally, or unintentionally, these people and places make it difficult for us to accept reality while still asking ourselves to change by seeing things differently, thinking differently, and behaving differently.

We have a dramatically better understanding of SARS-COV-2 than we did 2 years ago, but our ICUs, emergency rooms and hospitals are too full, and people are still dying. People are becoming patients, not because the (imperfect) vaccines are harmful, but DESPITE the vaccines being dramatically helpful. Yes, we need even better science with respect to understanding these viral mutations. Yes, we need vaccines which help for longer, and anticipate mutations. Yes, we need inexpensive and accessible (tested, safe, and effective) oral, treatments even if we are early in our infection, or have mild infection symptoms (medicines to prevent spread to those who are vulnerable). In the meantime, vaccinations and masking, not just for our own safety, but for the safety of others. Regardless of our choices, we can still do the best for ourselves, without shaming, embarrassing, or threatening those people who disagree with us.

MOST OF US FIND OUT THE HARD WAY THAT WE CANNOT AFFORD ANY MORE ENERGY FOR THE NEGATIVE EMOTIONS OF ANGER, FEAR, ANXIETY, SHAME AND EMBARRASSMENT. UNTIL THEN, SOMEHOW, THERE SEEMS TO BE A UNIVERSAL INSTINCT THAT BY PUTTING IN TIME, MENTAL EFFORT, AND ENERGY (RELIVING, BEING ANGRY, RE-TRAUMATIZING), WE CAN ROLL BACK TIME, RECEIVE JUSTICE, BE VINDICATED, OR THE ISSUES IN QUESTION CAN BE RESOLVED IN OUR FAVOR.

“OPEN SECRETS” MAKE PEOPLE BEHAVE AS IF EVERYONE, “IN THE KNOW”, HAS A LOSS OF TOUCH WITH REALITY, A FORM OF MASS HYPNOSIS, OR MASS PSYCHOSIS.

It seems as if a snap of a finger would jolt these people out of this trance, but it will not. People’s shame, embarrassment, fears, disbelief, defense mechanisms, and egos allow these aberrant behaviors to continue, sometimes for years. Charles Tadros, M.D. July 20, 2021 Saint Louis, Missouri

ADVERSE EFFECTS OF SUCCESS AND HAVING POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT INCLUDE THAT WE MAY BECOME PANICKED ABOUT MAKING MISTAKES, WORRIED ABOUT NOT BEING ABLE TO MAINTAIN THE PACE TO CONTINUE REACHING THESE ACHIEVEMENTS, AFRAID OF EMBARRASSING OURSELVES, ANXIOUS ABOUT LOSING ONE’S IDENTITY, BELIEF THAT WE ARE UNABLE TO CHANGE COURSE OR TO EXPLORE, AND FEARFUL OF LOSING THE ACCOLADES WHEN WE LOSE ALL THAT WE HAVE ACHIEVED.

MAYBE, WHEN IT IS PHYSICALLY AND EMOTIONALLY SAFE, WE SHOULD SLOW DOWN TO LOOK AND SEE WHY OUR FIRST INSTINCT WAS TO LOOK AWAY.

Others’ suffering and loneliness Our unhappiness Our anger Our shame and embarrassments Our relationships Our lives in disarray Our wanton consumerism Charles Tadros, M.D. May 4, 2021
